How Do I Stop Fortune-Telling? (Thinking Error 3)

Have you ever thought, “They probably think I’m stupid,” “They think I’m annoying,” or “I know they don’t like me”?

But how do you actually know what they’re thinking?

Projection happens when we take our own thoughts, feelings, and insecurities and project them onto someone else. Then, without realizing it, we start responding to those assumptions as though they were facts.

In Part 2 of my series on common thinking errors, we’ll talk about how to recognize projection, why it can fuel anxiety and self-doubt, and how to separate what you actually know from what you’re assuming.

Your Brain Is Tricking You

Did you know your brain learns more from what you do than from what you tell yourself?

You can repeat positive affirmations all day, but if you continue avoiding what scares you, seeking constant reassurance, or living in a state of tension and worry, your brain receives a very different message.

In this video, I explain why your actions teach your brain what is safe and what is dangerous. Learning to stay with discomfort, tolerate uncertainty, and ground yourself in the present helps your brain build confidence instead of reinforcing anxiety.

What Are You Teaching Your Brain?

Do you avoid situations because they make you anxious? Whether it's making a phone call, speaking up in a meeting, driving, social situations, or anything else that feels uncomfortable, avoidance may bring temporary relief—but it can also strengthen anxiety over time.

In this video, I explain why your brain interprets avoidance as escaping danger, even when there wasn't a real threat. The more you avoid, the more your brain believes the situation is unsafe. But every time you stay, face the discomfort, and allow your body to calm down, you're teaching your brain a new lesson:

"That was discomfort... not danger."

Healing doesn't happen by eliminating every anxious feeling. It happens by helping your brain learn that you can handle discomfort without running away.
